Trespasser causes major delays on Southern Rail services through Worthing

Rail passengers in Sussex faced severe disruption on Tuesday evening (2 September) after a trespasser blocked the railway line between Brighton and Worthing.

All lines were halted as emergency services dealt with the incident. Services linking Brighton with West Worthing, Chichester and Portsmouth were cancelled, while trains to Southampton were diverted to run only between Southampton Central and Worthing. London Victoria to Littlehampton trains were restricted to running between London and Brighton.

By 5.30pm the trespasser had been moved to safety and the lines were reopened, though services continued to face delays of up to 60 minutes late into Tuesday evening.
