Two arrested after police officer seriously injured in Shoreham

Two people have been arrested after a police officer was seriously injured during an incident involving a motorcycle in Shoreham.

Police said they became aware of motorcycles being ridden dangerously in the area at around 5pm on Sunday, 23 August. After a pursuit to a petrol station in Brighton Road, a motorcycle collided with an officer who had left his vehicle to apprehend the rider, leaving him with serious leg injuries. Despite his injuries, the officer helped arrest the rider and pillion passenger.

Max Harvey, 21, of Buckingham Road, Shoreham, was charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, driving while disqualified and having no insurance. He appeared before Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 24 August, and was bailed with conditions to appear before crown court on 22 September.

A 17-year-old boy from Hove was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motorbike, assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and possession with intent to supply cannabis, and was bailed pending further enquiries. Police are asking witnesses or anyone with mobile, dashcam or CCTV footage to contact them, quoting serial 908 of 23/08.
