Warning issued over scam enforcement officers targeting dog walkers

Residents in Worthing and surrounding areas are being warned about a scam involving individuals posing as environmental enforcement officers and attempting to issue fines to members of the public.
The warning follows an incident at Beach House Park in Worthing where a dog walker was approached by two people claiming to be officers and accused of breaching a Public Space Protection Order. The individuals attempted to issue a £1,000 fine and pressured the person to make a smaller payment on the spot to avoid receiving a ticket. The individual declined to provide money or personal details after becoming suspicious.
Further reports have since been received of similar incidents at Lancing Beach Green, as well as Homefield Park and Denton Gardens in Worthing. Following enquiries, Worthing Council have confirmed the individuals involved are not connected to the council or its enforcement partner, National Enforcement Solutions. Residents are advised to request official identification, note that legitimate officers wear branded uniforms and body cameras, and that any genuine enforcement action is formally recorded with a receipt issued.
