West Sussex launches World Cup safety campaign for fans

West Sussex County Council has launched a safety campaign ahead of the men’s football World Cup, working with Sussex Police and other organisations to help people enjoy the tournament safely at home and in public venues. The campaign encourages residents to report concerns and seek support if they experience or witness behaviour that causes fear, anxiety or discomfort.
The council’s message is “NOTICE IT. REPORT IT. GET SUPPORT.” Residents can report concerns including hate crime and incidents that may cause unrest through the council’s reporting services, while crimes can be reported to Sussex Police online or by calling 101. In emergencies where someone is at immediate risk, people are advised to call 999.
The council is also providing training for licensed premises to help staff recognise and respond to harassment, sexual violence including spiking, domestic abuse and hate-motivated incidents. In addition, the council’s WORTH Services team is supporting Sussex Police through Operation Hope, which involves visiting individuals considered at high risk of domestic abuse to offer safeguarding advice and support during the tournament.
