Woman in her 90s dies in Goring house fire

A woman in her 90s has died following a house fire in Goring, Worthing, during the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services were called to Sea Lane in Goring just before 4am today (3 July) after reports of a house fire. West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service sent three fire engines to the scene, where firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze using two high-pressure hose reels, a covering jet and a safety jet.

Despite efforts to control the fire, the sole occupant of the property was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed and the coroner has been notified.

A Sussex Police spokesperson confirmed that an investigation is underway in collaboration with West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service to establish the cause of the fire. At this stage, the incident is not being treated as suspicious. The last fire crew left the scene at 7.39am.
