Worthing council agrees deal to clean pigeon droppings from Montague Quarter

Worthing Borough Council has agreed a deal with the private owners of Montague Quarter to clean paved areas of the shopping precinct following concerns about a build-up of pigeon droppings.

Separate sections of the precinct are owned by Cayuga Developments and St. Clair Developments. The council had previously ordered the companies to improve maintenance and address the bird droppings, warning that they could be billed for cleaning if they failed to act. The agreement follows a meeting between the council and representatives of both companies.

Council teams jet-washed and swept the paved areas last week and will aim to sweep the precinct twice a week. Two litter bins will also be provided and emptied daily for at least 12 weeks, with an option to extend the arrangement. The council said the companies also need to address roosting birds in their sections of the Montague Quarter to help reduce further droppings.
