Worthing Council Leader Seeks More Investment in Town Centre Maintenance

The leader of Worthing Borough Council has outlined plans to invest additional funds in maintaining and improving the town centre, with a focus on making it cleaner, more welcoming and attractive for residents, businesses and visitors.

Councillor Caroline Baxter said she wants increased investment in areas including jet washing, cleansing, public infrastructure maintenance and the continued upkeep of public spaces.

The proposed investment would build on existing improvements already taking place in the town, including the Montague Gardens regeneration project, which is creating a new green space in the centre of Worthing and is expected to be completed this summer. Baxter said feedback from residents, businesses and town centre partners had highlighted the importance of maintaining a clean and attractive environment, adding that supporting local businesses and strengthening civic pride were key priorities.

The council said a number of businesses have recently committed to the town centre, including Skechers, while TK Maxx is relocating from the Montague Centre to Montague Street. New wayfinding signs are being installed across the town centre, and summer planting schemes are underway to add colour and support biodiversity.

The council said it would continue working with the Worthing Town Centre Business Improvement District, traders and the wider community to ensure future investment reflects local needs.
