Worthing drivers warned as diesel and petrol prices rise again

Worthing Drivers are being warned about rising fuel costs as the national average price of diesel reaches 196.1p per litre, approaching the record high of 199.1p recorded in July 2022. Petrol has also risen to an average of 172.4p per litre.

The AA said petrol and diesel averaged 135p and 142p per litre respectively at the same time last year. It is calling for the current fuel duty cut to be extended and increased, arguing that smaller businesses and people who rely on diesel vehicles in rural areas are facing particular pressure from higher prices.

The Government currently provides a 5p-per-litre reduction in fuel duty, equivalent to 6p per litre at the pump when VAT is included.

AA road fuel price spokesman Luke Bosdet said there was uncertainty over how much of any further reduction in fuel duty would be passed on to motorists by fuel retailers, and how quickly.
