Worthing firewalk raises over £3,800 for veterans’ care home

A firewalk challenge has raised more than £3,800 for a veterans’ care home in Worthing, with donations expected to push the total over £4,000.

The event took place at Worthing Rugby Club on 20 September, where participants walked barefoot across 600°C coals to support Care for Veterans, a Royal Star & Garter Home. The charity provides long-term nursing, rehabilitation, respite and end-of-life care for veterans and their families living with disabilities, including acquired brain injuries and degenerative neurological conditions.

Fifteen people completed the challenge, including Care for Veterans Home Manager Vicky Strange, who personally raised £1,400. She thanked all those involved and said the event was a memorable and worthwhile way to support the veteran community. Care for Veterans merged with the Royal Star & Garter group earlier this year and is currently welcoming new residents. Donations and further information can be found at www.careforveterans.org.uk.
