Worthing Five Peaks Challenge returns to support suicide prevention

The Worthing Five Peaks Challenge will return on September 5, raising funds and awareness for suicide prevention charity Olly’s Future with walking routes through the South Downs National Park.

The 17-mile challenge takes in Cissbury Ring, Chanctonbury Ring, Chantry Hill, Black Patch Hill and Highdown Hill, while a shorter six-mile route includes Cissbury Ring. Now in its second year, the walk is held in memory of Oliver (Olly) Hare, who took his own life in February 2017, shortly before his 23rd birthday.

Olly’s Future was established in 2020 by Worthing resident Ann Feloy and works to raise awareness of suicide and equip people with skills to discuss suicidal thoughts. Its Talking about Suicide: Ten Tools training programme, developed with mental health specialist Rose Rowkins, has reached more than 11,500 people worldwide. Ms Feloy said participants in the Five Peaks Challenge would be helping the charity raise funds during World Suicide Prevention Week while walking in the countryside.
