Worthing leisure centres join free public toilet scheme

Public leisure centres across Worthing are being added to a scheme allowing residents and visitors to use toilet facilities free of charge.
All public leisure centres in Adur and Worthing will be included in the Community Toilet Scheme, which aims to expand access to clean and reliable facilities by partnering with local venues. Sites such as Splashpoint, Worthing Leisure Centre and Lancing Manor are among those joining existing locations including Worthing Town Hall, Worthing Library, Brooklands Cafe, the Shoreham Centre and Lancing Parish Hall.
Participating non-council venues receive a small weekly payment to support cleaning and maintenance, and must provide hand washing and drying facilities as well as waste bins. Venues are required to be open for at least five or six days a week, with those operating seven days receiving additional funding.
The expansion coincides with a new contract under which South Downs Leisure will operate public leisure facilities across Adur and Worthing for the next 21 years. Councils say the scheme is intended to improve access to public amenities, particularly in town and village centres.
