Worthing MP Welcomes Renewed Assisted Dying Bill

A fresh attempt to legalise assisted dying has been welcomed by Worthing West MP Dr Beccy Cooper. The Terminally Ill Adults End of Life Bill is due to be reintroduced in Parliament by Rochester and Strood MP Lauren Edwards as a Private Members Bill later this week.
Dr Cooper said she supported the renewed effort and described the failure of the previous bill as an outrage. She said the earlier legislation had been delayed in the House of Lords despite being approved by MPs and pointed to public support for a change in the law. She added that she would continue to represent the views of residents in Worthing West on the issue.
A previous assisted dying bill passed the House of Commons but failed to become law after delays in the House of Lords. The new proposal is expected to be identical to the earlier version. If MPs approve the same bill in two consecutive parliamentary sessions, the Parliament Act could potentially be used to prevent the Lords from blocking it. The government has remained neutral on the issue, although Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer previously voted in favour of the bill.
