Worthing multi-storey car park closed for three days amid heat network works

Worthing’s High Street multi-storey car park has been closed for three days to allow continued construction work on the town’s new heat network.
The closure, running from Tuesday 15 July to Thursday 17 July, enables the installation of the Energy Hub by developers Hemiko. Worthing Borough Council confirmed the car park will reopen on Friday to support town centre access over the weekend.
The temporary closure follows earlier adjustments to Hemiko’s construction schedule after feedback from local businesses and the unexpected closure of another facility. The revised timeline has aimed to minimise disruption by keeping the car park open during weekends and key shopping periods, including Pride celebrations. A final three-day closure is expected in August.
Despite advance notice to season ticket holders and registered workers, some residents expressed frustration about the short public announcement timeframe. Meanwhile, Hemiko has confirmed that nine out of 14 work zones for the Worthing Heat Network have been completed, with the switch-on planned for later this year. The cycle hub within the car park remains accessible via staff escort from Chatsworth Road.
