Worthing Pier decking works continue on western entrance

Part of Worthing Pier remains closed off as replacement works continue on the western entrance, with contractors lifting old decking to inspect and assess the steel beams beneath.

Worthing Borough Council said most of the old timber has now been removed, revealing steelwork that requires replacement in the coming weeks. The project involves renewing 25-year-old sections to maintain a safe walkway for visitors, following similar works carried out on the pier’s eastern entrance earlier this year. The council confirmed that the western side remains fenced off for safety, but access to the pier is available via the eastern entrance.

Removed decking is being given to local group Men in Sheds to be recycled into household and garden items. Officials said updates on the progress of the refurbishment will be shared through social media.
