Worthing Pier storm repair work progresses as damaged pile removed

Work to repair storm damage at Worthing Pier has progressed after contractors removed a cracked supporting pile as part of a long-term restoration programme.
Worthing Borough Council said the work follows damage caused by severe weather, which led to a temporary steel support structure being installed beneath the pier in October 2024. One broken pile was removed shortly after the damage was identified, while a second adjacent pile was later found to have a large crack around much of its circumference.
The council said the cracked pile has now been removed so it can be replaced as part of the permanent repair scheme. Main repair work is expected to continue during the summer and autumn when weather and tidal conditions are more suitable, with efforts being made to reduce disruption and keep the pier open where possible.
