Worthing Pier to Reopen Following Repairs

Worthing Pier is set to reopen on Wednesday, 4th December, following extensive repair efforts by Worthing Borough Council and contractors after severe weather caused structural damage.

The pier was closed on 9th October when damage to its supporting piles made it unsafe. Since then, engineers and maintenance teams collaborated to design and install a temporary steel support structure, ensuring the pier could reopen safely. Businesses on the pier will also resume operations next week, following final preparations.

Work was accelerated by innovative approaches, including completing repairs from above using scaffolding rather than waiting for low tides. Despite interruptions from storms, the teams managed to complete welding and bracing ahead of schedule. Additional maintenance, such as repairing community artwork damaged by vandalism, is ongoing, ensuring the pier is fully ready for visitors.
