Worthing pupils gain skills in firefighter training course

Ten pupils from St Andrews C.E High School in Worthing have successfully completed a West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service course that introduced them to firefighter training techniques while helping to build life skills.
The course, known as GRIT, is designed to support young people’s social and emotional development by promoting resilience, confidence, and communication. Pupils aged 11 to 13 took part in a series of simulated firefighter exercises and teamwork activities over the course of the programme.
A special pass out parade was held at Lancing Fire Station to celebrate the students’ achievements, attended by their families, the High Sheriff of West Sussex, and senior fire service personnel. Assistant chief fire officer Dave Bray praised the pupils’ progress and encouraged them to consider a future career in the fire service. Councillor Duncan Crow also highlighted the importance of targeted education in supporting young people and their communities.
