Worthing Road Closed as Water Leak Causes Major Disruption

A major road in Worthing remains closed after a water leak caused significant disruption, with Southern Water unable to carry out repairs until gas works are completed.

Emergency repairs are required on South Farm Road, but work has been delayed as Southern Gas Networks must first fix a leaking pipe. The road closure, which began on 6 March, has now been extended to at least 19 March, with diversions in place.

Southern Water confirmed that teams were called to the scene on Monday evening after residents reported water bubbling up through the road surface. The affected section, between the Bulkington Avenue roundabout and Brockley Close, had already been shut due to previous issues. A spokesperson for the company apologised for the inconvenience, stating that they were keeping customers informed and working closely with gas engineers to resolve the issue.

West Sussex County Council has postponed other scheduled roadworks in the area to minimise disruption. Local residents have also reported the smell of gas near the leak, reinforcing the need for urgent repairs. Drivers are being advised to use alternative routes via Ardsheal Road and Broadwater Road while the closure remains in place.
