Worthing sinkhole forces emergency closure of Lansdowne Road

A sinkhole has forced the emergency closure of Lansdowne Road in Worthing while highways teams investigate and carry out urgent repairs.

The sinkhole was discovered outside number 5 on September 8. West Sussex County Council closed the road while teams investigate the void beneath it and work to make the area safe. Access is being maintained for emergency services, residents and pedestrians within the closed area.

The emergency closure can remain in place for up to 21 days, although the council currently expects the work to be completed by September 9. Worthing West county councillor Martin McCabe visited the site and said highways teams were working to get the road safe and reopened as quickly as possible.
