Worthing students launch Safe Havens safety app network

A new youth-led safety initiative has launched in Worthing, with students from Davison CE High School for Girls and St Andrew’s CE High School creating the Safe Havens network to provide young people with safe spaces if they feel at risk.

The project was developed after students identified personal safety as one of their biggest concerns and decided to create a practical solution.

The Safe Havens network connects users with participating businesses and community organisations that offer immediate support to anyone who feels unsafe. More than 40 organisations have already joined the scheme, displaying Safe Haven signage. The project is believed to be the first of its kind in the UK to be entirely conceived, designed and delivered by young people, who led every stage from branding and business engagement to training materials and the digital experience.

The scheme has received funding from Worthing Community Chest and support from the UK Safer Business Network to ensure participating organisations are trained to assist young people. Councillor Carl Walker praised the students’ work, describing the project as innovative and highlighting its potential to make Worthing safer. The Safe Havens app is now available on Google Play.
