Worthing Thunder and Brighton Bears basketball clubs announce historic merger

Worthing Thunder and the Brighton Bears have announced a landmark merger that aims to reshape the basketball landscape in Sussex by creating a new unified force focused on elite development and community outreach.
The move brings together two of the region’s most prominent basketball clubs. The Brighton Bears, known for their past association with NBA figures like Dennis Rodman and coach Nick Nurse, join forces with Worthing Thunder, who have been a top contender in the National Basketball League with multiple championships and MVP titles. Club leaders say the merger unites their respective strengths to build a complete pathway from grassroots to professional basketball.
The senior men’s team will continue under the Worthing Thunder name, while the junior programme will operate as Worthing Thunder & Bears. The clubs aim to use their combined coaching, facilities, and infrastructure to offer improved opportunities for young players and expand basketball’s presence across the south coast.
