Worthing Town Centre Summer Clean Postponed Due To Extreme Heat Warning

A town centre clean-up event in Worthing has been postponed because of extreme heat warnings, with organisers citing concerns for the safety and wellbeing of volunteers.
The Worthing Town Summer Clean, which had been scheduled for Tuesday June 23, will now take place on Tuesday July 14 at 9am, with volunteers still due to meet at Montague Gardens.
Worthing Town Centre BID and Worthing Borough Council said the decision was made because of the forecast hot weather and an amber weather warning in place for the area. The event aims to bring together residents, businesses and community groups to help clear litter from key locations in the town centre, with the council providing equipment and arranging the collection and disposal of waste and recycling.
The postponement comes as health and weather authorities warn of exceptionally high temperatures across southern England. The UK Health Security Agency has issued a red heat-health alert covering parts of Sussex, warning that temperatures could exceed 37C and reach as high as 40C in some places, creating risks to the wider population as well as vulnerable groups.
